Our Mission

Our Mission

Pure Heart Foundation aims to provide limitless resources for children of incarcerated parents to meet their overall concerns of children and to empower them to break the cycle of generational incarceration.

Currently, 2.7 million children in the U.S. have an incarcerated parent and 228,000 children in Michigan alone have had at least one parent incarcerated. Michigan has some of the highest rates and is ranked in the top ten states of children with an incarcerated parent. Studies show that children of incarcerated parent(s) are seven times more likely to be entangled in the criminal system based on their parent's incarceration and they are more likely to suffer from emotional, social, educational and financial distress.

OUR SOLUTION

Our Solution

Pure Heart Foundation was designed to break the cycle of generational incarceration by providing wraparound services that will strategically benefit the child of an incarcerated parent and family. Through Pure Heart, each child of an incarcerated parent has a chance to be heard, supported and encouraged to navigate through life despite their circumstances. Pure Heart Foundation has developed a program called the Integrated Approach to Youth Development (IAYD)

that will ensure children of incarcerated parents will perform at their best capacity. IAYD includes six core pillars.
